A client of mine started her own micro twists a year before our first appointment. I had been maintaining her hair with interlocking since September 2020. During our 1st appointment we discussed which products she had been using and her maintenance schedule. She informed me that she was using a cream based moisturizer in addition to other products. During her shampoo service I could see a slightly grayish film on her locs especially in the crown area; this was where she typically experienced the most dryness and itching, causing her to apply the cream on a regular basis. I suggested that she discontinue the cream because its was causing build-up in her locs, and switch to a lightweight carrier oil. Thick and opaque products are not recommended for locs in general, but especially the extra small and micro size, due to excessive build-up.
To remove the build-up in her locs I used Carol's daughter's wash day delight which is a clarifying shampoo. I prefer this product over apple cider vinegar with baking soda. The wash day delight helps to remove most forms of debris, excess oils, and certain causes of dandruff, while soothing the scalp, and leaving the hair smelling fresh. Afterwards I followed up with a moisturizing shampoo. Since her hair was fully locked and does not unravel when wet, I also used a lightweight conditioner.
Before sitting my client under the dryer to prepare for interlocking I sprayed her hair and scalp with our Hydrating Rose Water. It's refreshing, smells amazing, and provides a gentle mist on the hair. I oiled her scalp with our hair and scalp oil which has a base of castor oil and grapeseed oil with essential oils such as peppermint and rosemary oil. Our Soothing Hair Growth Oil helps to stimulate the hair follicles, reduces inflammation and itching, prevents the scalp from drying out while under the dryer, and seals in moisture keeping the locs light and soft. *I always make sure to ask clients if they have sensitivities to any ingredients before applying products to their scalp.*
After discontinuing the cream moisturizer my client's locs felt softer, lighter, and remained free of build-up 🤗. Cheers to another healthy micro loc journey!
